The cultivation of Bitter Orange Blossom, or Zagara or Bigaradier, was the first flower cultivation in Vallebona and represented an important economy for the village: it lasted for over a century, alongside lemon cultivation.
It was a significant source of livelihood in an olive-growing village too close to the sea to have excellent oil production.
Vallebona was the village that produced the largest quantity in the surrounding area.
After about fifty years, Pietro Guglielmi reopened the distillery founded by his great-grandfather in 1856 and replanted bitter oranges (or melangoli), becoming a Slow Food Presidium and exclusive supplier to some prestigious Italian gelato shops and pastry shops.
Vallebona offers a unique experience for your holidays, it is a picturesque place rich in history, culture, and natural beauty; a peaceful and authentic environment.
